A philosophy of presence, growth, and dignity.
Reciprocity is something we do not talk about enough. It is the idea that relationships are not meant to flow in only one direction. Even when someone needs support, both people still matter in the exchange.
Too often, when we care for or support others, we slip into a one sided role. We help, guide, and instruct. While that is important, we can forget that the person we are supporting still has wisdom, humor, experiences, and value to offer.
Reciprocity is remembering that support does not remove someone’s humanity. An elderly person may move slowly but carry a lifetime of knowledge. A person with a disability may see the world in ways others do not. Even when support is needed, connection can still go both ways.
It also means having patience. Some people need more time to process, to learn, or to communicate. In those moments, patience becomes an act of respect. Because one day, we will all need someone to slow down for us.

Reciprocity is not about equal abilities. It is about equal humanity. It is choosing to create a world where people are given time, dignity, and understanding.
And often, it begins with something simple. A moment of patience. A moment of respect. A moment where two people meet not as roles, but as human beings sharing the same space.
